CHAPTER OF ATHA (ASSOCIATION OF TRADITIONAL HOOKING ARTISTS)
*August 26, 2017* (Note: this is the 4th Saturday)
“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.” Albert Einstein
Those seeds we planted at rug hooking demonstrations are continuing to sprout! We had 8 beginners in the July 15th pull-a-loop class, taught by Sandra Grasso and chapter assistants. The beginners hailed from: Desert Hot Springs, Yucca Valley, Norco and Hemet.
August Program: Designer and color specialist, Carla Fortney, will join us to talk about color: hue, value, and intensity and how they relate to color planning our rugs. Members will have the opportunity to schedule 10-15 minute consults with Carla to ask for advice on their current projects.
WELCOME to our newest members, Lynn Jiles and Melanie Medlin!
How’s your Chapter Project ~ Hook-a-Leaf coming along? Participating Members receive a 20” x 20” piece of linen, and will hook a pattern of their choice (must feature a leaf, or leaves). Minimum hooked size is 8” x 8” but can be larger. No other rules!! Be creative and see what you can come up with! These projects will be featured at the Harvest Hook-in.
And…speaking of the Harvest Hook-in, mark the date, October 21st, on your calendar. We’ll have a slide show from 2016’s hook-in, entertainment, wool, shopping (Mary Johnson from Designs in Wool will be there), raffle baskets and more!
Start thinking about a Raffle Basket theme! If you aren’t interested in completing a basket, contributions of items (particularly rug patterns!) or $ for items, are gladly accepted! See Jane Artinian for ideas, or let her know if you have one of your own!
The purpose of California’s First Chapter of ATHA shall be: to develop and promote interest in rug hooking; to maintain the highest standards by taking classes, sharing information and aspiring to better our personal abilities; sponsoring rug exhibits and rug hooking events to educate others.
